The first PC950LC-11 is put to work on a demolition site
Right up its alley: a demolition site in Berlin operated by SDL-Citybaumanagement GmbH, founded in 2011. This is also the case at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, where a bunker demolition behind the Ministry of Finance is now underway. The Komatsu PC950-11 is the top choice for this project. Not only because of the latest Komatsu engine, hydraulic, and control technologies. The large hydraulic excavator also excels with increased power, higher digging forces, greater traction, outstanding durability, easy and safe access, and a 360-degree visibility system—all while maintaining low fuel consumption. This boosts productivity by nearly 50% and fuel efficiency by 40% compared to the PC800-8, which it replaces.
The integrated KomVision driver assistance system provides the operator with a blind-spot-free view of the machine’s immediate surroundings and helps significantly reduce the risk of accidents. Walkways on both sides of the machine allow for easy and safe maintenance.
The PC950LC-11 offers three selectable operating modes that can be easily adapted to operating conditions: Economy, Power, and the new Power Plus mode, which unleashes the maximum power of the new Komatsu 405-kW engine (EU Stage V emissions standard). Reduced cycle times combined with high-capacity buckets deliver a productivity increase of up to 48% compared to the PC800-8.
The operator can individually adjust the priority of the lift, swing, and boom movements depending on the application. This allows the excavator to operate with extreme precision, but also to tackle tough jobs at full power. All attachments can be conveniently changed from the cab using the Oilquick quick-change system with an OQ120 mount and controlled proportionally.
The upper structure, boom, stick, and undercarriage components were designed and developed to match the power, productivity, and bucket capacity of the PC950LC-11, ensuring strength, durability, and operational capability even in extreme operating conditions. The machine’s excellent stability provides an additional safety advantage.

For the bunker demolition, the PC950 LC-11 was equipped with an NPK SV100 XR concrete shear. Thanks to the coordinated combination of excavator and shear from Schlüter Baumaschinen GmbH, this is the best solution for demolishing concrete structures. The concrete shears can be used for primary demolition. With an excellent balance between weight, power (and low fuel consumption of the machine), the SV series is also suitable for demolition work requiring a long reach. The booster is automatically activated when the jaws encounter resistance. The working pressure in the cylinder is up to three times higher than the excavator’s pressure, while other excavator functions remain unaffected. The integrated booster enables a compact cylinder design, reduces the total weight, results in shorter cycle times, higher productivity, lower fuel consumption, and greater performance.
