Bohmte.
Wittlager Land Port creates new transport options by water
The Wittlager Land Port provides businesses along the Mittelland Canal with a public inland port for the transport of goods by water. The 3.7-hectare port site features three handling areas for bulk goods, heavy goods, containers and agricultural produce, as well as two berths.
A major transhipment project is currently underway at the port. Around 250,000 tonnes of gravel-sand mix will be handled by the end of the year. There are also plans to handle grain in the future.
Particular emphasis is placed on ensuring the port operates as sustainably as possible. In the long term, the site is to be operated as CO₂-neutrally as possible. Modern hybrid technology and energy-efficient machinery are already being utilised to this end.
Sennebogen 835G Hybrid in daily material handling operations
At the heart of the material handling operations is a Sennebogen 835G Hybrid. The machine was developed specifically for demanding handling tasks and combines high performance with particularly efficient energy use.
The Green Hybrid energy recovery system recovers kinetic energy, thereby enabling fuel savings of up to 30 per cent. At the same time, the hydraulics of the G-Series have been completely overhauled: optimised hose and pipe routing improves efficiency and further boosts the machine’s energy efficiency.
Particularly noteworthy are the globally unique, overlapping motion sequences of the Sennebogen 835G Hybrid. Supported by an additional hybrid hydraulic cylinder, several working movements can be performed simultaneously. This enables maximum handling performance whilst reducing fuel consumption – a decisive advantage in daily port operations.
With its wraparound windows, the Maxcab cabin offers an unobstructed panoramic view of the entire working area, thereby contributing to safe and precise handling operations. The operator of the material handler also highlights the excellent driving experience and the ergonomic features of the cabin.
The Komatsu SK715: a compact helper on board the ship
The handling process is supported by a Komatsu SK715 skid-steer loader. The machine is loaded directly onto the ship using the Sennebogen and is used on board to consolidate the material so that it can be efficiently loaded and handled.
The skid steer loader impresses with its compact design, high manoeuvrability and excellent all-round visibility. With an operating weight of 2,820 kilograms and a powerful, low-emission engine, it also contributes to economical and resource-efficient operation.
