Investing in the future: GP Günter Papenburg AG relies on Salzgitter AG’s low-carbon “green steel”

Wackersdorf. With the delivery of new material-handling machines at the Sennebogen plant in Wackersdorf, GP Günter Papenburg AG is sending a clear signal of its commitment to sustainable investment in modern construction machinery technology.
A family-owned company with a nationwide presence: GP Günter Papenburg AG
What began in 1963 as a small sole proprietorship with a grand entrepreneurial vision has grown into a high-performing and diverse group of companies. Today, GP Günter Papenburg AG brings together 66 subsidiaries and business units under one roof and ranks among the established leaders in the German construction industry. As a family-run group of companies, GP Günter Papenburg AG combines tradition with a forward-looking approach and successfully holds its own in a dynamic market environment. Approximately 4,000 employees work across the country. The group’s success is based on an integrated network of affiliated companies spanning the entire value chain—from raw material extraction and building material production, through the execution of large-scale construction projects and in-house logistics solutions, to modern building material recycling. This holistic approach enables sustainable, efficient, and economically robust construction processes from a single source—something the company is justifiably proud of.

Sustainable Machinery Investment at Bauma 2025
At Bauma 2025, GP Günter Papenburg AG invested in a total of 47 new machines from Komatsu and Sennebogen—a significant step toward the future. With this modern expansion of its machinery fleet, the company is focusing specifically on innovative technologies, high efficiency, and sustainable solutions for demanding tasks in the construction and recycling sectors. The investments focused particularly on the future-oriented sectors of recycling, material handling, and material processing: Seven Sennebogen material handlers in the 22- to 30-ton weight class (models 822G to 830G) will strengthen the fleet in the future. As a long-established family-run company, Sennebogen stands for “Made in Germany,” innovative strength, the highest quality, and consistent specialization in material handling.

Sustainability throughout the entire product lifecycle – Salzgitter AG’s “SALCOS® steel”
With this investment, GP Günter Papenburg AG is making a strong statement in support of sustainable business practices. All Sennebogen machines are made of high-quality German steel from Salzgitter AG – five of the Sennebogen machines are also manufactured from climate-friendly green SALCOS® steel. SALCOS stands for “Salzgitter Low CO₂ Steelmaking” and is Salzgitter AG’s transformation program for the gradual transition to low-carbon steel production. The goal is to produce steel with physically verifiable, significantly reduced CO₂ emissions in order to significantly reduce Scope 3 emissions along the industrial value chain in particular—while maintaining the same high standards of quality and performance. “The combination of modern, energy-efficient machinery and climate-friendly steel underscores the Group’s commitment to leading the way and not only articulating sustainability but also consistently implementing it. This is particularly true in municipal construction, where emission reduction, resource conservation, and noise reduction are increasingly central requirements,” said Jens Kleinert, Managing Director of GP Papenburg Maschinentechnik GmbH, regarding the reasons behind the investment.

Long-standing collaboration with Schlüter Baumaschinen
This investment also underscores the trusting collaboration with Schlüter Baumaschinen as a distribution partner, characterized by a close partnership and a shared commitment to quality, performance, and a forward-looking approach. Comprehensive support for the new machines is ensured by a nationwide network of 33 branches and over 750 qualified service technicians, ensuring that maintenance, service calls, and repairs can be carried out quickly and reliably at any time.
