To mark the partnership between Komatsu and Williams Racing, three machines were produced in the Williams Racing livery, including the HB365LC, which was exhibited at this year’s Bauma and sold to the company A&S Betondemontage.
A partnership with a long history: Komatsu and Williams Racing in Formula 1
Komatsu was already one of Williams Racing’s main partners in the 1980s and 1990s. The partnership was revived at the start of the 2024 Formula 1 racing season with a multi-year contract. Both brands share common values and visions, upon which the partnership is based. Characteristics such as technology, quality and reliability are found in both brands, suggesting that the collaboration holds the promise of great success. Komatsu took the partnership as an opportunity to manufacture a machine in the Williams Racing design at three European plants and have it signed by Williams Team Principal James Vowles and Formula 1 World Champion and Williams brand ambassador Jacques Villeneuve. A WA475-10 wheel loader was produced in Hanover, a WB97S-8 backhoe loader in Italy and the HB365LC hybrid excavator in England. The latter was exhibited at Bauma alongside a Formula 1 racing car and sold there to the company A&S Betondemontage.

Innovative fuel savings with the Komatsu HB365LC hybrid excavator
The machine fleet of A&S Betondemontage GmbH has now been expanded to include the Komatsu HB365LC hybrid excavator. The machine enables an improvement in the carbon footprint and fuel efficiency of up to 30%. Komatsu’s hybrid system features an electric swing motor generator that converts the kinetic energy of the swinging upper structure into electrical power during braking. The recovered energy is stored in a high-capacity capacitor and can be used to assist the diesel engine. As a result, the system makes a significant contribution to fuel savings. Furthermore, the machine impresses with its maximum efficiency and precision. The hybrid excavator is used by A&S Betondemontage GmbH in the recycling sector for feeding the crushing and screening plant.
Motorsport and the construction industry combined in a unique piece of machinery
Managing Director Hinrich Detmering is delighted with the purchase of the machine: “On the one hand, we are huge motorsport fans, but we are also big fans of machinery and excavators. The combination of the two is a major selling point for us.
